Girl Talk #1: The Ms. Independent Christian Woman

Today I am starting a series called "Girl Talk". For the next 4 saturdays I will be blogging about different issues that I see young ladies facing. The idea of these posts came to me after I noticed that over 50 percent of my readers are women who fall between the ages of 18-35 years old. This is the age range where majority of the important decisions we will make in life will occur. As someone who is also in that age range, I am in constant prayer to God asking Him for directions on how to navigate this period of my life. The first thing that God has laid in my heart to share is that we must not waste time. One of the most dangerous thing we can do is to forget the essence of time. We know that the Bible says that there's a season for everything and a time for every purpose (Ecclesiastes 3:1), so what time is it in your life? If you do not have an answer to that question, then you are wasting time and falling into the trap of the devil called unfulfillment. The devil does not mind you living as long as your are not living the life God meant for you! This trap has already been revealed in the Word of God.

"Rejoice, O young [wo]man in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these God will bring you into judgement." - Ecclesiastes 11:9

As you can see, the devil disguised unfulfillment under the covering of fun and carefreeness.  Deception says," follow your heart and do whatever looks good in your eyes because you are too young to be so serious with life!", while the voice of Truth is screaming, " My daughter, the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked", (Jeremiah 17:9). The voice we choose to listen to reveals who we belong to. The Word of God says that we are a slave to whatever overcomes us (2 Peter 2:19) therefore if we are overcomed by our our eyes and our heart, then we are slaves to the flesh. No one who walks in the flesh can please the Lord so God has called us to walk in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free. God has called us all to be Independent Women! As a daughter of the Most High God, you have a purpose that is beyond you and God has given you all the tools you need to exercise your independence in every area of your life starting now! Two main areas to start being independent in is in your walk with God and in your ambitions.

1. Be Independent In Your Walk With God
" Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth"- 2 Timothy 2:15

To be the independent woman that God has called you to be, you must first know yourself in Him. How much of your personal time do you devote to knowing God and the things of God? If anyone of us was told that the password to unlock the door to a vault that contained 5 million dollars was somewhere in a 1000 page book, we would all read that book to find the password. The Holy Bible contains the answers to all of life's problems and the Words written in it gives life, yet we only open it on sundays, if we are lucky. Ladies, we are selling ourselves short! We will continue to let people walk over us, destroy our self confidence, and speak death into our lives when we don't know the One we belong to. God says you are wonderfully and fearfully made, yet we listen to the standards of men and endanger ourselves with butt surgeries, waist trainers, tons of "on fleek" makeup, and body amplification supplements that kills us! The Word of God says in those days sons and daughters will prophesy, but we don't even know how to pray for anything other than our food! The recent movie " War Room" reveals how much power we give up when we don't activate the power of prayers in our lives and don't recognize our need to spend alone time in the presence of our Maker. God has to be our God, not just the God of our parents. We must confess, "Lord You are MY Lord and  MY personal Savior. " Even Jesus, Son of the Living God proclaimed in John 20:17, " I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God". God will lead us into our destinies when He knows that even in our independence, we are still dependent on Him.

2. Be Independent In Your Ambitions.
"She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands." (Proverbs 31: 13)
"She also rises while it is yet night" (Proverbs 31:15a)
"She considers a field and buys it" (Proverbs 31:16a)
"She girds herself with strength and strengthens her arms" (Proverbs 31:17)
"And her lamp does not go out by night" (Proverbs 31:18b)

Just as with the Proverbs 31 woman, God has given you the wisdom and the strength you need to go after the dreams He has given you. Before He gave you a dream, He has already made a way for the dream. Your job is to utilize this period of your life to work diligently towards actualizing your goals! Whatever they may be, with God nothing shall be impossible! If you want to go to school to obtain the education needed to become whatever it is you wish, go! If your career does not require a typical 4-year college education path then invest in your gifts and cultivate your talents! Have dreams of starting non-profits or charity work, start it!  Do not let the work attached to ambition scare you from pushing forward. The Proverbs 31 rose up before it was dawn, put in countless sleepless nights, and worked with her bare hands. Nowhere was it stated that her husband or friend partnered with her because it was her God gave the vision. This is also to show her trust and dependency on the Lord to bless the works of her hands.  The Bible says:

"In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, either this or that, or whether both alike will be good."- Ecclesiastes 11:6

Sow all the seeds God has given to you when He says to plant it even if it does not look like it's the right season. The verse right above the stated scriptures says we don't know the works of God who makes everything so do not block God with your limited thinking. Do not wait for someone to encourage or validate you or your goals; instead pat yourself on the back, encourage yourself in the Lord, and commit everything into God's hands. If God be for you, you cannot fail. Ultimately whatever we do with today will determine what will become of us tomorrow. You are not too young to start being a powerful woman of God in every area of your life. As women of God let us start wisely investing in ourselves for the glory of the One who has called us. May the Lord give us grace to be women after His heart even starting from today. Amen.
